Mental health partnership with Place2Be

Wembley High Technology College has developed a comprehensive approach to mental health and wellbeing in collaboration with Place2Be. A dedicated Place2Be Project Manager now works closely with our Designated Safeguarding Lead and Senior Mental Health Lead to add a gold standard of support and care for our most vulnerable students. Although in-school therapeutic provision is not the sole answer to the current mental health crisis, it can be a lifeline for some of our most vulnerable young people who otherwise may have to wait more than a year for support from external organisations. Through Place2Be, students, families and staff can now benefit from a range of support including:

  • Weekly One-to-one counselling with a trained therapist over 10 weeks
  • One-off 15-30 minute appointments to discuss mental health
  • Group workshops to improve confidence and resilience
  • CBT-informed therapy

The testimonies below show how impactful this partnership can be for our community.

  • “When I feel worried, it’s like I’m in a maze and the people in Place2Be are coming with a torch and showing me the way” – Pupil
  • “My daughter had become such a different person – one we didn’t recognise – but since counselling we see signs of our old loving daughter coming back.” – Parent

When is Place2Be useful?

Sometimes young people can feel particularly anxious, low, confused or angry.  Maybe something difficult happened at home, like losing a family member or parents separating. Or perhaps they are struggling with a friendship issue. This can make them behave differently, lose confidence in themselves or find it difficult to concentrate in class. Place2Be is there to help young people find ways to cope, so their worries do not get in the way of their friendships, their learning or how they feel about themselves.

What does Place2Be do?

Place2Be’s professionals work with young people one-to-one or in small groups, giving regular support for pupils who need it. Pupils can also book a short appointment to talk about any problems or worries they have – this is called Place2Talk. Students who want to book an appointment with the Place2Be Project Manager can do so by emailing safeguarding@northbrentschool.co.uk or by completing a form here: Safeguarding - North Brent School. The Project Manager will then share your appointment time with them during a break or lunchtime.

How does Place2Be work with adults?

Place2Be provides support and advice for parents and carers, as well as teachers and school staff. Parents can also book an appointment with the Place2Be Project Manager by emailed safeguarding@northbrentschool.co.uk. If you want to find out more about Place2Be visit place2be.org.uk
